What OUR PaTIENTS are saying

MEET OUR DOCTORS

Dr. Ray H. Morgan, Jr.

Dr. Ray Morgan is the founder of Towne Lake Family Dentistry and the first dentist to open a practice in the Towne Lake community back in 1988. He earned his Bachelor of Science in microbiology and immunology from Clemson University, then graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine in 1987 and completed a one-year general practice residency at Palmetto Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina. He was the youngest licensed dentist in the state of Georgia at the time he graduated, and nearly four decades later, he's still the same dentist his patients have trusted since their kids were small.

For Dr. Morgan, dentistry has always been about more than just teeth. He approaches every case like an architect approaches a building, with intention, attention to detail, and a focus on how the work will hold up over time. He has advanced LVI training in occlusion, aesthetics, and neuromuscular dentistry, is certified in fixed orthodontics, Invisalign®, and BOTOX®/facial fillers, and is a proud member of the American Dental Association®. Multiple times each year, he continues his education with a focus on cosmetic dentistry, smile design, and restorative work, the areas he's most passionate about. He has also organized and directed two mission trips to rural Mexico to provide general dentistry to patients in need.

Dr. Morgan is the father of two and lives life with the same care and craftsmanship he brings to the office. He spends his time at the lake, wake surfing, weight training, and competing in Spartan races. He's also a self-described horse dad whose mare recently gave birth to a foal, and a proud Bernadoodle owner who has no idea how spoiled she really is.

Dr. Steven M. Shepperd

Dr. Steven Shepperd has been practicing dentistry in the Atlanta area since 1980 and has been part of the Towne Lake Family Dentistry team for years. He earned a degree in chemistry with a minor in math from Florida International University, where he was also a member of the university jazz ensemble, before graduating from the Emory University School of Dentistry in 1980. He's committed to continuing education and takes at least 50 hours of advanced coursework every two years to stay current with the latest in patient care. He's also studied with the Atlantic Coast Dental Research Clinic, the Pankey Institute, and the Dawson Academy, each one known for raising the bar on clinical excellence and treatment planning.

Dr. Shepperd grew up in a family of healthcare providers, with a father who specialized in ENT and plastic surgery and a mother who worked as a registered nurse in intensive care. That foundation shaped how he practices today, with a steady, thoughtful approach and a deep respect for the people in his chair. He chose Towne Lake Family Dentistry on purpose because of how the team listens, how patients are treated, and how every doctor here is held to the same standard of care.

Outside the office, Dr. Shepperd treasures time with his wife Sharon and their children Leah and Ben. He enjoys water sports, golf, woodworking, and gardening, and his family also comes to Towne Lake Family Dentistry as patients, which he says is the simplest test of trust he can give the practice.

Dr. Samuel Posey

Dr. Samuel Posey is the implant-focused doctor at Towne Lake Family Dentistry, known for making complex procedures feel simple and predictable for his patients. He graduated with honors from Gilmer High School in Ellijay, Georgia, then attended Berry College in Rome, Georgia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry, graduating Magna Cum Laude. During his time at Berry, he served as class treasurer and earned the U.S. Presidential Volunteer Service Award. He went on to receive his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia in 2014.

Dr. Posey is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What should I expect at my first visit to Towne Lake Family Dentistry?

Your first appointment is unhurried, judgment-free, and designed so we actually get to know you. We start with a full set of diagnostic records including 3D imaging, photographs, a thorough gum health check, and an oral cancer screening. Then we sit down with you, face to face, and Dr. Morgan asks one simple question before anything else: what can we do for you? From there, we build a plan together based on what you actually want, not what's fastest or easiest.

Do you accept dental insurance?

We're out of network with most dental insurance plans, and that's intentional. It means our treatment recommendations are based on what your mouth actually needs, not what a carrier will reimburse. We'll always help you understand and use the benefits you have, and we offer financing options and an in-house membership plan for patients without insurance. Our treatment coordinator walks you through every option up front, so there are no surprises.

What services does Towne Lake Family Dentistry offer?

We're a full-service practice that handles everything from family and preventive care to complex smile transformations, all under one roof. Our services include cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, Invisalign®, smile makeovers, full-mouth reconstruction, sleep apnea treatment, TMJ care, and facial aesthetics including BOTOX® and fillers. With Dr. Ray Morgan, Dr. Steven Shepperd, and Dr. Samuel Posey on one team, you get a consistent standard of care across every appointment.

Are you accepting new patients in Woodstock, GA?

Yes, we're accepting new patients and we'd love to meet you. Whether you're new to the Towne Lake area, looking for a second opinion, or finally ready to fix something you've been putting off, we welcome patients of every age and every situation. You can book your first appointment online or call our office directly at 770-591-7929.

Do you offer dental implants and Invisalign® in one office?

Yes, we offer both dental implants and Invisalign® in our Woodstock office, so you can plan, place, and complete your treatment with one team you trust. Dr. Posey leads our implant work using 3D-guided placement technology for predictable, precise results, and our team has helped countless adult patients straighten their smiles with Invisalign®. Many of our patients combine the two as part of a longer smile transformation, and we map out every step together so you always know what to expect.

How do I know if I need a smile makeover or full-mouth reconstruction?

If you're unhappy with how your smile looks, dealing with worn or damaged teeth, or have been putting off treatment for years, a smile makeover or full-mouth reconstruction may be worth exploring. The best way to find out is to come in for a consultation, where we look at the whole picture including your bite, your gum health, the position of your teeth, and what you want the end result to look like. From there, we walk you through the options, the sequence, and the timeline, so you can make a confident decision.

What makes Towne Lake Family Dentistry different from other dentists in Woodstock?

There are nineteen dental offices on our road, and we were the first one here in 1988. What sets us apart is how we practice. We take the time to listen, we recommend treatment based on what your mouth needs and not what insurance will pay, and we hold every restoration to a standard that will still look right ten or twenty years from now. We've built a team that stays, with several members who've been with us for over 28 years, and patients who keep coming back for generations.
